What if I told you that hitting publish on quality content is just a very small piece of the blog traffic puzzle? And what if I told you that marketing? That’s where the real work comes in. But it’s true! If you’re looking to drive traffic to your blog, increase sales, and you’re a blogging beginner, you need a marketing strategy. What you need, is a Pinterest strategy.

Pinterest Marketing Strategies to Drive Tons of Traffic to Your Blog
I’ve heard it both ways. Some bloggers say you can make a huge salary with a small following and zero traffic, others say page views are what counts. I’m here to tell you that both ways are right- you have to know how to market correctly.
When you consider who you want to see your blog, be specific. Create an avatar in your mind of who your blog is written to. Content is king, remember? So who exactly wants to read this quality content?
I have a friend who wrote several books and after marketing to the general masses for some time, he realized a pattern. His readers were more often than not, older, white, British women. Now, that’s not the audience he had been aiming for, but in knowing that this particular group loved his works, he began to market specifically to them and saw a huge rise in sales.
Know who you’re writing to. And this would be your target audience.
Find Your Target Audience, Niche Down, and Increase Blog Traffic
Once my friend knew to whom he ought to be speaking, he was able to niche down and write content specifically curated for his audience. And he knew that in marketing that material, going to a college campus for example would be a waste of his time. Why? Because his content wasn’t for college aged American co-eds – it was for older, British women.
Knowing your target audience and zeroing in on your avatar, your ideal reader, helps with advertising, too.
When creating an ad, you have to consider who you’re creating it for. For example, this pin-nable image of the incredible ebook Pinterest Ninja by Megan of Love Family Health? Obviously she’s marketing to someone like me because I love everything about this!
Not only are the colors gorgeous, and the text clear and easy to read, the description of Pinterest Ninja would be something that draws me in because it truly is “The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need to Master Pinterest!” Doesn’t that sound enticing? Great marketing Megan.
Creating Promoted Pins or Pinterest Ads as a Pinterest Marketing Strategy
You’ve heard of the various social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And several of those sites offer paid advertising on top of being a regularly free social media site.
For me, my absolute favorite method of driving traffic to my blog is Pinterest. In fact, if you’ve been a reader of mine for some time, you’ll notice I’ve dedicated a LOT of my content to driving traffic to your blog with Pinterest.
I’ve paid for my fair share of Pinterest ads, and yes, it does incredibly well for driving traffic. But there comes a point where you want consistent traffic without having to pay for it. Which is why you have to know how to utilize Pinterest for FREE.
The Pinterest Launch Plan and Pinterest Ninja for Pinterest Marketing
In addition to discussing the value of The Pinterest Launch Plan by Jennifer Maker and Pinterest Ninja ebook and course by Megan of LoveFamilyHealth, I’m going to continue giving you some blogging tips on how to find popular keywords to use on your blog posts. As well as some blogging tips on how to increase your blog traffic. But first, allow me to sing the praises of two phenomenal Pinterest courses for bloggers that have helped me on my Pinterest traffic strategy.
Pinterest Marketing Tips from The Pinterest Launch Plan by Jennifer Maker
Are you a visual learner? Do you love watching someone walk you through the steps one by one so that there is zero question on whether you’re implementing the steps correctly? Then Jennifer Maker’s The Pinterest Launch Plan is for you!
Jennifer Maker’s The Pinterest Launch Plan has EXCELLENT VISUALS showing the importance of slow growth and Pinterest TRAFFIC, not just followers in her course. She knows the value of metrics and what matters.
I’m one for trial and error and so I spent YEARS trying to succeed at Pinterest traffic with mixed success. My subscribers list was growing, my income was growing, but if I’m honest, I was looking for everything to grow even FASTER. So I did a LOT of research as to which bloggers had AMAZING Pinterest strategies and had written ebooks and filmed courses that could help. And Jennifer’s The Pinterest Launch Plan was one of only two courses that I’ve paid for in terms of increasing my blog traffic with Pinterest.
These courses are 100% worth working through, in my opinion. And well worth the money (again, they worked for me personally). And Jennifer’s The Pinterest Launch Plan is PURE GOLD in terms of increasing my blog traffic FOR FREE with Pinterest.
Not only is it an affordable, worthwhile education in all things Pinterest, I’m a part of her Blog What You Love Facebook group and have seen testimony after testimony of how it has worked for other readers- myself included!
Affordable, Practical Pinterest Marketing Tips: The Pinterest Launch Plan
She breaks down step by step how to set up your Pinterest business account for success from day one. And not only does she have an in depth ebook that covers everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Pinterest, she gives screen shot examples of what she talks about to go along with the text PLUS videos!!!
No matter how you learn, be it by reading text, watching videos, or looking at photos and applying that knowledge, her Pinterest Launch Plan has it all. And EVERY UPDATE is included FREE when you purchase her course. Because as I said before, Pinterest is always changing.
I think her course is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and well worth every penny (hint hint it’s also VERY AFFORDABLE for blogging for beginners on a budget like me!) And as a star pupil from Elite Blog Academy that took her blog into six figures within two years of going through EBA and just last month (March 2019) hit six figures in a MONTH you can be assured that Jennifer Maker’s strategy WORKS.
And before I get into why I think Pinterest Ninja by Megan of Love Family Health is a bargain when it comes to Pinterest traffic and increasing sales, too, let me hit on something Jennifer makes clear in The Pinterest Launch Plan.
If you want to drive traffic, you need to focus on your keywords. Long tail keywords. And here’s how you find the exact matches.
Implementing Pinterest Keywords in Your Pinterest Marketing Strategy
If I type in the word, Blogging, in the Pinterest search bar, the following popular searches appear.
1) Blogging for Beginners
3) Blogging for Money
4) Blogging Tips
5) Blogging Ideas
These are some of your top five popular keywords, and a great start. But let’s return to that search bar to find even better keywords. Better long tail keywords..
The example I used was Blogging, since I blog about blogging.
I came up with five really good keywords.
- Blogging for Money
- Blogging for Beginners
- Blogging Tips
- Blogging Ideas
Now that we have five good keywords, which is a start, let’s expand on that.
Blogging for Beginners Tips Continued: Keyword Sub Titles
I click on blogging for beginners since it came up readily in my search. Once I search blogging for beginners, I am then shown several different colored keywords beneath my recent search. The colored boxes are as follows:
Step by Step
How to Start A
This is an EXCELLENT start. And remember where I first got the idea to look in the colored boxes for keywords? Yes. The Pinterest Launch Plan. Thank you JENNIFER! But if you want to know even more of what Jennifer says in terms of keywords, you’ll have to get The Pinterest Launch Plan! She does an INCREDIBLE JOB with the visuals and step by step screen shots on pinning down (pun intended) the popular Pinterest keywords. Get The Pinterest Launch Plan here.
Popular Pinterest Keywords and Your Pinterest Marketing Strategy
The list goes on in these various colored boxes, and these are just the top ten. If I were to click the arrow to the right hand side of my screen, I would see still more and more options related to my search for Blogging for Beginners.
If I hover over the first box, Money, the suggestion comes up that I should search Blogging for Beginners Money. The second box, Blogging for Beginners WordPress, is the next option.
To recap, I went from searching Blogging to Blogging for Beginners, and then my next search suggestion with popular keywords would be Blogging for Beginners Money.
The colored boxes are helping me create what are called long tail keywords. And in terms of showing up towards the top in a search engine, the more long tail keywords, the better.
But now, I want to talk about the second course that I’m absolutely thrilled with due to how much it has helped me increase my blog traffic. Pinterest Ninja, the ebook and course by Megan of Love Family Health.

Now back to a lesson on why long tail keywords and Pinterest? They’re best friends. Here are more tips on how to use those long tail keywords (and your Pinterest Ninja and The Pinterest Launch Plan tips) to get more sales and more traffic.
Long Tail Keywords and Relevance in Pinterest Marketing
I just mentioned that long tail keywords are preferable to short, one word searches like blogging. But in my personal Pinterest experiments, I’ve used a mix of both short and long to cover all my bases.
I’m only human, so let me be real for a second and tell you one of my very first mistakes in terms of SEO and keywords. A bit embarrassing, but perhaps in my sharing my mistake, you can avoid the same- which is my hope.
I mentioned that stuffing is a no-no in the Pinterest world, so is using irrelevant, though popular, keywords.
For example, if I were to write a post on Blogging, which ended up being simply a long list of my favorite bloggers, Blogging for Beginners WordPress, though a popular keyword search, would not be a good choice. Why?
Because if I’m writing a list of my top 10 favorite bloggers, someone searching Blogging for Beginners WordPress wouldn’t find what they were looking for, even if my post came up in their search.
Use Only Relevant Popular Keywords for Pinterest Traffic 2019
That is deception. And it’s not only immoral, a mix of lying and cheating your readers, it’s also a good way to get kicked down several notches in terms of Google and Pinterest rankings.
In the past, I was guilty of using popular keywords to get traffic whether or not they were stricly relevant. But I noticed in doing that my email list wasn’t growing (and email is where your loyal readers are). My email wasn’t growing because the traffic I was pulling in? The readers were feeling cheated, I’m sure. I was coming up top in their searches, but my posts were not on par with what they were looking for. Therefore, I found myself running in circles. Drawing readers to my site, only to lose them after them reading one or two posts. So every month I was having to find new readers.
It was a cycle that had to be broken. And the fix was simple.
I started using only relevant keywords. A mix of short and long tail, but relevant all the same. And you know what? I believe that it’s worked.
